About Virgin America

Founded in 2007 and bought out by the Alaska Air Group in 2018, Virgin America was a US-based airline which provides low-fare services between the East and West coasts of the United States. The airline was a subsidiary of Virgin and is based at San Francisco International Airport, California. 

Virgin America had codeshare agreements with China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia. Virgin America flew to many destinations including Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, San Diego, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Kahului, Honolulu, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Newark, New York City, Portland, San Jose, Orange County and many others.

Virgin America was a California-based airline that offers mood-lit cabins with Wifi, custom-designated leather seats, power outlets and a video touch-screen at every seatback offering guests on-demand menus and countless entertainment options. During its time of operation, Virgin America was awarded a lot of awards including "Best Domestic Airline" in both Conde Nast Traveller's Reader Choice Awards.

Virgin America's First Class Cabin offered maximum legroom with nearly two feet of extra legroom in an exclusive cabin in addition to priority boarding and security checks. Virgin America was the first and airline to offer fleetwide Wifi as well as power outlets at every seat.

Virgin America's partners included Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia, Aeromexico, Air China, Air New Zealand, Asiana Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, El Al, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Fiji Airways, Hainan Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Icelandair, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, LATAM Airlines and many others.

In April 2016, it was announced that Virgin America was to be acquired by Alaska Airlines. The integration of the two airlines was completed in 2018. Virgin American Elevate program has been merged into Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program.
