Indonesia AirAsia and AirAsia X named the the cheapest international carrier by distance travelled

According to a study, AirAsia X and another AirAsia Subsidiary, Indonesia AirAsia, have been named the cheapest airlines by average price ($) per kilometre on international flight searche. This data was analysed by Rome2ri,o who published the 2018 edition of its Global Flight Price Ranking which highlights the cheapest airlines in the world for cost per kilometre. Australia’s Tiger Air is seen as the cheapest airline at a cost of $0.06/km, “likely due to the large distances covered by the budget airline”. From an international perspective, when Rome2rio measured the top 200 airlines by average price ($) per kilometre on international flight searches, it found Asian and Indian carriers dominated the top of the list, with Air Asia X taking top spot, followed by Air India Express and Indonesia AirAsia. Of course, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt, as the price of airlines depends of a lot of other external factors.

Europe a ‘long-term plan’ for Thai AirAsia X

Thai AirAsia X is eyeing potential flights to Europe, but this year will be focused on bolstering its North Asian network.

“It’s a long-term plan, we have been studying again,” said the carrier’s chief executive Nadda Buranasiri during a discussion session at the Routes Asia event in Brisbane.

He admits though that the airline still needs to “fully understand” the market before it launches any routes to Europe.

Nadda adds that the carrier has, in the past, been too aggressive and failed to fully analyse the markets it entered. It had to pay the price for it - especially when it comes to entering into markets that are still dominated by travel agents, rather than the independent travelers that are its core target.

“In 2016 we were too fast in two markets that were not developed in online travel markets,” he admits.

This year, the carrier will take delivery of three Airbus A330-300s, which will take its fleet to nine of the type. The aircraft are being sourced from 49% shareholder AirAsia X.

While it will launch services from Bangkok Don Mueang to Sapporo in April, the bulk of the additional capacity this year will focus on adding frequencies to existing routes.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows that the carrier operates services from Bangkok to Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo and Osaka.

AirAsia India to roll out etiquette video for first-time flyers

AirAsia India has come up with a solution as to how to teach people how to behave while they are in the air. First-time flyers, of which there are a lot on AirAsia India, will be introduced and instructed on things such as when to arrive at the airport, how to clear security and when to stand up on an airplane. This how-to video, is hoped to eased the experience of new passengers on AirAsia flights. Air fares have fallen rapidly in India in the recent years, and with such fall, more of the country's population have been able to afford air travel, putting pressure on airlines such as AirAisa India to keep up with demands for flight bookings.

Although train travel was once the bread and butter of India's transportation industry, people are increasingly opting for flights with domestic carriers. Another reason the video idea is so popular is that many customers are unaccustomed to the waste dispoal systems in airplanes. Aircraft toilet fascilities have traditionally been built i western style, which many people find alien. As people are used to rail travel, they also think they can carry whatever they want, which is another aspect of confustion that the video hopes to address. No sharp objects and live animals in the air! That's train travel territory.
