About

Samoa Airways, which was previously known as Polynesian Airlines, is the national airline of Samoa. The airline was originally founded in 1959 as Polynesian Airlines but briefly stopped flying in 2005. After being taken over by Polynesian Blue (which then became Virgin Samoa), the airline resumed flights with the its current name at the end of 2017. The airline is completely owned by the government of Samoa and is based in the country's capital, Apia. At present, the airline operates short-haul flights within the country as well as long-haul flights to Australia and New Zealand.

Carry-on Baggage

All passengers who have purchased a Fiafa Saver, Fiafa Smart and Fiafa Plus ticket are permitted one piece of carry-on baggage weighing 7kg. The same applies to passengers with Fiafa Flexi or Fiafa Premium tickets.

Checked Baggage

All passengers who have purchased a Fiafa Saver, Fiafa Smart and Fiafa Plus ticket are permitted one piece of checked baggage weighing 23kg. For Fiafa Flexi passengers the checked baggage allowance is one piece of baggage weighing 32kg. Fiafa Premium (Business Class) passengers are permitted two pieces of baggage weighing 32kg.

 


 

Hub Airport

Faleolo International Airport

Samoa Airways is based at Faleolo International Airport, which is located 40km from Apia (the capital of Samoa). Until 1984, the airport could not accommodate aircraft larger than a Boeing 737. Nowadays, the airport has been expanded and the majority of the island's international traffic lands at Faleolo airport. Other airlines that operate out of the airport include Fiji Airways (Air Pacific) and Virgin Australia.
