About Nepal Airlines
Royal Nepal Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Nepal. Nepal Airlines flies to both international and domestic destinations from its base Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.
The airline was established in July 1958 as Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation (RNAC) and is Nepal's first ever airline. The airline's first aircraft was a Douglas DC-3, which used to serve domestic routes and to a handful of destinations in India. The airline acquired its first jet aircraft, Boeing 727, in 1972. The first of Nepal Airlines‘ two 757s arrived in 1987. Flying on long-haul routes and displaying the national flag at world airports, they helped Nepal make its presence felt in the international aviation scene. The 757 holds 190 passengers.
Currently, the airline operates a fleet of over 10 aircraft, with a mix of Boeing, Airbus, de Havilland Canada, Harbin and Xian aircraft
Since it's inception, Nepalese carrier has had a strong connectivity with destinations within India. Currently, Nepal Airlines offers seven weekly flights between Kathmandu and Delhi and one weekly service between Kathmandu and Mumbai.
Nepal Airlines has a codeshare agreement with Druk Air. However, Nepal Airlines, along with all other Nepalese airlines, are currently banned from flying within EU airspace.

Nepal Airlines Seeks Finance of 5b to Buy 6 Twin Otter Planes
The plane is a Nepal Airlines are seeking for is a 19-passenger STOL utility aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada
In order to raise money to buy 6 Viking Air DHC6-400 Twin Otter aircraft, the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has asked the government to make a Rs5 billion equity investment.
“We have planned to mobilize the equity investment to procure six Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) aircraft. This is the first installment of the Rs20 billion that we have sought from the government to raise NAC’s paid-up capital to support its financial restructuring plan.” said Sugat Ratna Manandhar, managing director of NAC.

Recommendation to buy 6 new Viking Air DHC6-400 Twin Otter aircraft to Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC)
The 5-member committee had been formed to evaluate the need for NAC to purchase new aircraft to serve the domestic sector.
The committee submitted the report last week recommending the management to purchase aircraft to expand its remote area services, led by NAC’s Deputy Managing Director Ganesh Bahadur Chand,
As the management has been discussing a buyback deal with the Twin Otter aircraft manufacturer under which it can trade in its three vintage Twin Otters, the committee has suggested continuing the two deals separately, said Rabindra Shrestha, spokesperson of NAC. “The committee has suggested that the old Twin Otters belonging to NAC be sold or auctioned separately.”
The management is expected to table the report at the NAC’s board for its approval soon, he said, adding that after the board’s approval, the corporation would initiate the process of arranging financial resources to buy the new planes. “The deal is expected to cost $7 million for each aircraft. However, the exact prices will be known only after negotiations with the manufacturer is finalised.”
Recently, NAC Managing Director Sugat Kansakar had told the Post that if the government approves the project, the manufacturer would deliver the aircraft within seven months. “The Employees Provident Fund has pledged to finance the purchase,” he had said.
The purchase modality: full purchase or lease purchase is expected to be decided by the board, the corporation said.
The Twin Otter made its first appearance in Nepal in 1971 as a replacement for the DC-3 Dakota, the workhorse of the then Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation.
The de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, currently marketed as the Viking Air DHC-6 Twin Otter, is a Canadian 19-passenger Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) utility aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada and currently produced by Viking Air. In 2005, Viking purchased the Type Certificates for all of the out-of-production de Havilland aircraft, including the Twin Otter. After an extensive market analysis was conducted, it was determined that an overwhelming demand existed to bring the Twin Otter back into production, thus the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter Production Programme was announced in 2007. The first production aircraft was delivered in 2010. In Nepal, private carrier Tara Air is the first customer of the Viking plane.
NAC has said that it has enough manpower, like engineers and pilots, to fly the DHC-6 Twin Otter. The carrier’s move comes at a time when demand for air transport service has gone up sharply in remote areas.

Two Chinese Aircraft handed to Nepal Airlines
Two 17-seat Y12e aircraft have been handed over to Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) amid a function here Tuesday. The aircrafts were brought on subsidized loan from the government of China.
The handover programme organized at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was attended by the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviations Rabindra Adhikari and Chinese ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong.
Six aircraft including these two were brought to Nepal 45 days back. The NAC has stated that of the six aircrafts, Y12 and MA 60 (56 seat) were brought on grant while others on subsidized loan. Agreement was made six years ago that Nepal would bring six aircraft from China.
On the occasion, Minister Adhikari directed the NAC officials to bring into operation all six airplanes within hundred days. NAC Director General Sugat Ratna Kansakar expressed hope that domestic flights would be made more effective with the operation of the new airplanes.
Ambassador Hong opined that tourism was a major base of Nepal’s economy and the operation of new planes would boost tourism.

Nepal Airlines gets gov't nod for Seoul, Osaka, Riyadh ops
Nepal Airlines (RA, Kathmandu) has secured Nepalese government approval for its planned flights to Seoul Incheon, Osaka Kansai, and Riyadh, to be operated with two A330-200s.
According to The Kathmandu Post, the airline plans to operate out of Kathmandu to Riyadh 7x weekly and 4x weekly to each of Seoul Incheon and Osaka Kansai. Flights will be launched after the airline adds Airbus wide-body jets in the first half of 2018. All operations are pending approvals from the respective authorities in the destination countries.
"Nepal Airlines has to apply for operating authorization at the civil aviation ministries or authorities of the respective countries," Mukesh Dangol from the Nepalese Civil Aviation Ministry told the newspaper.
The airline intended to operate to Tokyo instead of Osaka, but this was not possible as the air service agreement between Nepal and Japan only allows direct flights to the latter airport. Nepal Airlines is also mulling flights to London but this, in turn, is blocked by the fact that the carrier is blacklisted by the European Commission. The state-owned operator has also applied for landing rights at Guangzhou, its first destination in China, and mulls expanding to Australia.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, the airline's current international network includes Delhi Int'l, Dubai Int'l, Doha Hamad Int'l, Kuala Lumpur Int'l, Bangalore Int'l, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok, and Mumbai Int'l.

Nepal Airlines to add new destinations to its domestic flight
Nepal Airlines Corporation would soon be adding new destinations to its domestic flight services while expanding the domestic air routes.
The flag carrier airline has geared up for the management of required aircraft and human resources including pilots for the same.
“At present, two Y-12 aircraft are in use for the operation of domestic flights while two more are coming from China within the next three months,” NAC spokesperson Rabindra Shrestha was quoted in the Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying.
The airline operates a fleet of 10 aircrafts.

Nepal's BB Airways acquires B757, to resume ops
Nepal Airlines (RA, Kathmandu) has finalized the sale of B757-200 9N-ACA (msn 23850) following a six-month tender process. According to the Khasokhas Weekly magazine, the aircraft was sold to Bhawan Bhatta, the Managing Director of dormant Nepali carrier BB Airways (BBW, Kathmandu), for NPR151 million Nepali rupee (USD1.46 million).
BB Airways was among several bidders for the 30-year-old twinjet alongside US-based Avion Systems, Himalaya Aviation Consultant, TBI Group Nepal, and Israel-based APS Airparts, Services and Supplies and two individuals, Janardan Man Dangol and Anu Manandhar.
"We have purchased one B757-200 for BB Airways," said corporate director and spokesperson Ravindra Shrestha. "We have also made a 10% down-payment on the aircraft."
According to the report, once it has been returned to operational service, 9N-ACA will be deployed on the Kathmandu-Delhi Int'l, India route suggesting BB Airways will be resuming operations in due course. BB Airways briefly operated regional Asian flights in 2012/13 using a B757-200 wet-leased from the now-defunct Cambodian operator, TonléSap Airlines (K9, Phnom Penh).

Nepal Airlines can expect more passenger traffic with hub airport upgrade
A new international terminal is set to be built at Nepal Airlines' airport hub — Tribhuvan International Airport. The new terminal is expected to be able to handle up to 7.5 million passengers a year. The international terminal that the airport currently has is expected to be transformed into another domestic terminal by 2021.

Nepal Airlines received its 2nd Airbus A320, Lumbini
The aircraft was filled with 5 tonnes of aid material to be flown from the Airbus factory in Hamburg, to Nepal on delivery of the aircraft. The aid material will be used in the relief effort for the April 2015 Nepal earthquake.
