About Loganair

Loganair is a Scottish regional airline, serving 29 destinations across the UK, Republic of Ireland and Norway.

Loganair offers travelers a wide route network attracting buinses and leisure. Founded in 1962 in Glasgow, it has flown under franchise agreements with both British Airways and Flybe, but will fly under its own brand from 1st September 2017. Six of the Scottish routes served by Loganair are supported by external funding. The routes, namely Glasgow to Barra, Campbeltown, Tiree, Stornoway to Benbecula, Dundee to Stansted and the Inter Orkney Isles, are designated Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes.

A PSO, one of only two state aid mechanisms within EU legislation for air services, is imposed on routes which are not commercially viable and are essential to counter the remoteness of the regions. In February 2019, it was announced that the airline will launch three new routes from London Southen to Aberdeen, Glasgow and Stornaway. After Flybe axed its service from Southend to Glasgow, the new routes will be a welcome addition.

Loganair's Fleet

Loganair has a fleet of 28 aircraft and operates five different types to meet the varied requirements of regional flying within the UK: The Saab 340, Dornier 328 and Saab 2000.

Loganair introduced the 50-seat Saab 2000 aircraft to its fleet in 2014 and it operates on core markets including Shetland/Aberdeen and Stornoway/Glasgow. The aircraft capacity is also best suited to provide frequency, with most islands having a day return schedule.

Loganair's aircraft are available for private passenger and freight charter.

Loganair's Frequent Flyer Program

Loganair offers a Spend & Fly availability checker which allows passengers to verify the number of seats available by route and date on Flybe flights.

Loganair also offers in the event of a death in your immediate family, an unexpected critical medical situation, or the need to visit an immediate family member receiving treatment as an in-patient in a mainland hospital or hospice, you may find that you need to arrange urgent air travel at short notice, and thus do not have the time to qualify for an advance purchase discounted fare.

To be eligible for Compassionate Fares and Compassionate Flexibility, Loganair will consider an event of recent bereavement to an Immediate Family member, an Immediate Family member suffering a recent, unexpected critical medical situation, or an Immediate Family member attending a hospital or hospice as an in-patient.

Loganair to receive new aircraft next year?

Loganair wants to add at least two new Embraer Regional Jets to its fleet by the end of the first half of next year. The airline is keen to begin operating services to central Europe but currently doesn't have the fleet capacity to do so. Managing Director of Loganair, Jonathon Hinkles, commented that there are a number of big airports throughout Europe that aren't being flown to from Glasgow and the people of southern Scotland want better connectivity from their major airport.  If Loganair orders these two new aircraft, its entire fleet will consist of over 30 aircraft.
