Kam Air upgauges B767 fleet

Kam Air has acquired its first B767-300(ER) with YA-KMR (msn 25534) having been ferried to Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen for painting.
Kam Air currently has a single, inoperative B767-200. It also operates 2 A340-300s, 1 B737-300, 2 B737-500s (of which one is wet-leased from Ukrainian Wings), and 2 MD-87s. The airline operates scheduled flights to towns and cities across: Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.

Kam Air launched twice weekly flight from Maulana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi International Airport in Mazar-e-Sharif to New Delhi, in India.

Mohammad Asif, the head of Mazar airport, said efforts are also underway to start up a cargo route from the airport to foreign destinations.

“Soon we will start exporting agricultural produce,” Asif added.

Meanwhile Manjish Grover, India’s Consul General in Mazar-e Sharif welcomed the move and said this was yet another sign of Afghanistan-India friendship.

“This is probably an answer to the call of all these people who wanted a direct flight from here and I think the most who would benefit from this direct flight will be the people from this region; especially those who go to India for medical treatment; I hope this direct connection will also eventually increase trade and commercial activity between the north of Afghanistan and India and that we see more and more business people using this opportunity to travel to India for business,” Grover said.

Meanwhile passengers booked on the inaugural flight to Delhi also welcomed the move.

“I am flying from Mazar-e-Sharif directly to New Delhi and I am very glad,” said Najibullah a passenger.

“In the past we did not have direct flights and we had to go through Kabul, but now direct flights have started and we are very happy,” said Khalid another passenger.

These flights are considered economically beneficial for Afghans living in the north – especially those in need of specialized medical treatment.

“Our people have health problems and they travel to India and in the past people faced big problems but now with direct flights their problems are solved,” said Afzal Hadid Balkh, the provincial council head.

The new route is the third international destination to be added to Mazar airport’s services. Flights to Turkey and Iran from Mazar are already well established.

May 2016

Kam Air announced that it would be leasing a Fokker 100 from Kazakhstan's Bek Air.

Kam Air operates a diverse fleet of jets including one B737-500 (leased from Bravo Airways, one B767-200, one MD-82 and two MD-87s. It offers regular passenger flights to Bost, Herat, Kandahar, and Mazar i Sharif locally and Delhi Int'l and Dushanberegionally. In March 2016, KAM Air announced it was to start direct flights between Kabul and the Central Bamyan province.

The first flight by Kam Air carried passengers from capital Kabul to Bamyan province using Saab 340 aircraft, a Swedish twin-engine turboprop aircraft that can carry up to 40 passengers. Bamyan is located in central parts of the country and is among the relatively peaceful provinces where terrorist related incidents are rarely reported.
