News

June 2017

Aurigny announced it had withdrew its Medevac service our of hours

Local airline Aurigny has had to withdraw its life-saving Medevac service from Alderney outside of normal hours.

They are unable to fly seriously ill passengers from Alderney to hospital in Guernsey when the airport is closed, because of staff shortages. For decades they have provided the service, but now it can't guarantee it will be available between 7pm and 7am.

May 2017

Aurigny announced it is to retire its second-last Britten Norman Trislander, sending G-RLON to retirement at Solent Sky Museum in southern England. Aurigny's last of the type, G-BEVT, is due to retire in June. This is not believed to be the last operating Trislander, however. Three of the aircraft are registered on the United States registry – N920GD (msn 1044), N869VL and N906VL – with all three located in Puerto Rico. Another one is operated by Roraima Airways in Guyana.

In May 2017, Aurigny announced that its Aurigny Trislander took its final commercial flight. Aurigny's last remaining Trislander will make its last commercial flight this morning, after nearly 25 years with the airline. The plane will spend its retirement on display at an aviation museum in Cambridgeshire. It is one of three Trislanders due to be put on public display, with plans for the iconic 'Joey' to take pride of place at Guernsey’s Oatlands Village and the recently-retired G-RLON to be displayed at Solent Sky Museum in Southampton.

In October 2016, Aurigny announced losses of £4.6 million despite having 15 years of debt written off. Rising maintenance costs of £1.4m were partially to blame for a £3.1m overspend, the £4.6m loss expected this year is due to maintenance costs, one-off incidents, and currency losses arising from Britain's vote to leave the EU. The deal covered the deficit accumulated between 2003 and 2014 and a further £5.3m set aside to cover expected losses up to 2017.

April 2017

Aurigny announced it was to scrap complimentary drinks from 1st May 2017

The States-owned airline are set to replace the free service with a comprehensive menu of paid-for refreshments. They hope the new model will save money, and make the airline "less costly" for the States of Guernsey. However, the airline has reassured customers that they will still be able to get free copies of the Guernsey Press on board all flights.

In April 2017, Aurigny announced one of its longest serving commercial aircraft will be joining the collection at a Hampshire air museum. The 18-seater aircraft, which retired from service with Aurigny in February, has clocked up more than 32,600 flying hours over its 42-year career – equivalent to flying non-stop for 1,358 days – and made stands at 105,130 landings. The Trislander fleet is being retired as part of Aurigny’s transition to Dornier aircraft. G-RLON landed at Lee-on-Solent Airfield, where it will be stored for a while, until space can be made in the museum. The 18-seater Trislanders were built by Britten-Norman Aircraft between 1971 and 1982 and many were bought by Aurigny, which operates passenger and freight services between the Channel Islands, northern France, and the UK.
