About Azul

Azul Airlines is a Brazilian low-cost carrier whose hub is based at Campinas-Viracopos Airport. Founded in 2008, Azul Airlines has been the fastest growing airline in Brazil and has the largest airline network in the country in terms of cities served, with service to more than 100 destinations.

Azul Airlines serves destinations in Brazil, French Guiana, Portugal, the United States and Uruguay. Azul is Brazil's third-largest airline, after TAM and Gol with a 32% departure share in the Brazilian aviation market. In 2014, Azul Airlines was elected for the fourth time in a row by Skytrax as the best low-cost carrier in Latin America. In addition, the company was recognized by FlightStats as the company with best on-time performance in Latin America, and by CAPA as the best low-cost carrier in the world in 2013.

In May 2012, Azul announced the acquisition of TRIP Linhas Aereas, the largest regional carrier in Brazil. On November 24, 2015 it was announced that the Chinese HNA Group, owner of Hainan Airlines, would invest US$450 million in Azul, becoming the largest single shareholder of Azul. This follows the US$100 million investment of United Airlines closed in June 2015.

Azul has a codeshare agreement with Star Alliance airline United Airlines and JetBlue and TAP Portugal. Azul Airlines celebrated its expansion by launching the start of a route between Belo Horizonte to Buenos Aires Ezeiza. Azul Airlines launched its only international route from Belo Horizonte (CNF) on 6 March, a connection to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE), its only link to Argentina. The airline will serve the 2,211-kilometre sector daily on its E195s, with GOL being the only incumbent on the route offering a weekly rotation, a route it started the day before Azul Airlines’ inauguration. After Alas Uruguay, the bankrupt Uruguayan airline, ceased operations in 2017 Azul began negotiations with the country's government about taking on some of the airline's routes and staff.
